The Clean Creamy Conundrum: My Favorite Milk Alternative

 

If you’ve been on a healing journey for any length of time, you know the "supermarket sigh." It’s that moment you stand in the dairy aisle, reading a label, and realize that your "healthy" alternative is actually a chemistry project of gums, thickeners, and synthetic additives.

In my practice, I see so many women navigating health complexities that make them feel restricted, perhaps even fearful of their food. We want to do the right thing. We want to nourish the "temple" we’ve been given, yet the search for purity often leads to a sense of scarcity.

The Truth: No product is perfect unless it’s falling directly off the tree and into your hands (hopefully not your head if it's a coconut!). But in a modern world, we look for the next best thing: stewardship over perfection.

 

Why Coconut? The Functional Medicine Perspective

From a root-cause perspective, coconut is a powerhouse for restorative health. Unlike dairy—which can be pro-inflammatory for those with compromised gut barriers or autoimmune sensitivities—coconut provides:

  • Medium-Chain Triglycerides (MCTs): These fatty acids are unique because they are sent straight to the liver to be used as instant energy, supporting cognitive function and metabolic health.
